Students Carve Out Niche for Themselves at Woodwork Contest

The TRADART Foundation and Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD) invites the community to join in celebrating local students at The Big Show Student Woodworking Competition.

The free event will be 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, May 11 in the Santa Barbara County Education Office's upper auditorium, 4400 Cathedral Oaks Road, Santa Barbara. Awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m.

TRADART Foundation is an educational organization in Santa Barbara, which partners with SBUSD to support learning craftsmanship in the construction trades.

Community members can meet the teachers, as well as the students who have created one-of-a-kind entries for the juried competition that features junior high and high school students’ Career Technical Education Woodshop and Construction Technology projects.

Award Categories include: Open, Turning (pens/pencils), Turning (other), Seating, Furniture, Cutting-boards, Toys, Best in Show, Rookie of the Year, and Visitor's Choice.

Visitors can cast their vote for the project favored by the public, called the Visitor's Choice.

TRADART Foundation, a California nonprofit, has four volunteer programs with SBUSD, including Tools for Schools, Tiny Home, The Big Show and Career Days , and the CTE Marvin Melvin Award.
